Costa Rica is home to a variety of marine life, which draws many divers. Costa Rica waters can be home to many aquatic species, such as humpback whales and dolphins, bull sharks or bull sharks. Costa Rica is the right place for experienced scuba divers. Regardless of your level of experience, there are diving destinations in Costa Rica for you to enjoy.

Cano Island

The waters around Cano Island are turquoise, providing the perfect setting for snorkeling and scuba diving. This area has the highest concentrations of coral-building organisms worldwide, including brain and head corals. The waters of the region are home to large marine organisms such as mantas rays and humpbacks. In the rainy months, accommodations and prices will be lower and people will be less.

Islas Murcielagos

One of the top Costa Rica dive sites, the Islas Murcielagos are a group of islands located in the southern tip of the Santa Elena Peninsula, just north of Papagayo. These islands offer excellent visibility and are surrounded by ocean. This area is home to many species of fish, rays and other marine life. This area is also home to bull sharks as well as olive ridley turtles.

Catalina Island

Catalina Island provides a memorable diving experience. These uninhabited islands are found only two to 15 miles off the northwest coast of Costa Rica. While the visibility and temperature in the area are similar to other areas of the Pacific Coast, there are some differences in the water. If you'd like to dive in a warm, temperate environment with lots of marine life, then Catalina Island is for you.
