Become a Cavern Diver

If you are considering becoming a cavern diver, you will need to complete a scuba diving course. This course covers four scuba diving dives. The first one is an outdoor practice dive where you will learn basic techniques for handling line and reel, air management, and avoiding silt outs. Your instructor can also help you plan your dives and manage your orientation. After the course you will be certified to dive in caves and other caves following safety rules.

Safety

The Rule of Threes applies to cave diving safety protocols. The Cave Diver should have three sources for light and at minimum two tanks. To ensure that they have enough gas for the dive, they must also split their gas into three parts. If the dive team is experienced, and has had experience diving in caves before, it is better to use a conservative gas management strategy. In addition to avoiding cave hazards, cave divers should practice safe diving practices.

Equipment

Cave diving requires specific equipment. It is essential to have two types of safety gear. One should be used to run guideline, while the other should be used to maintain line tension while the diver is in the cave. For cavern diving, each diver must have a safety rod with enough line for the distance to the cave's entrance. Manufacturers will often pack the reels up to the edge with guideline when making a new reel. This makes them more susceptible to jamming. To avoid jamming, remove approximately 10 meters (30ft), of line prior to use.

Maximum penetration

TDI offers a cavern diving course for scuba divers who want to dive in areas that do not allow direct vertical access. This includes dives into caverns, and overhangs. While it is not a prerequisite to enroll in a cavern dive, this course will help you gain the necessary skills to make the best use of this environment. In this course, you will learn how to safely navigate the confined spaces that are often hidden from view.

Maximum depth

Cavern diving has some limitations. Cavern diving should not be done at night. Cavern diving requires advanced training, which is not the case for other types. If you're curious about diving in caverns, you'll need to learn the basic cave safety procedures and know your limits. Before you can dive in caverns, it is important to have some cave diving experience. This will allow you to begin your journey into the wonderful world of cavern-diving!
