Aqua-Lung, the world's first self-contained, open-circuit underwater breathing apparatus, gained worldwide fame and commercial success. This equipment is often referred to as the "demand valve" or "twin-hose diving regulator". Aqua-Lung breathing apparatus functions in a manner similar to a traditional Scuba Tank. The regulator is connected to a demand valve, which regulates the flow of air in and out of the lungs.

Jacques Cousteau

Jacques Cousteau, aqua lung - a fascinating tale in Scuba technology! The original Aqualung was created during World War II. Cousteau, who was a French national, invented the underwater breathing apparatus in 1943. His inspiration was Captain Yves Le Prieur's 1925 device. The Aqua-Lung had limited functionality at first, but the Germans demanded that automobile gas be requisitioned to use on the battlefield. Cousteau adapted an existing regulator to create the Aqua-Lung, and then invented the autonomous diving system.

Cousteau discovered underwater archeology after advancing scuba tech. He led the first self-contained diving expedition in 1946 and recovered the Roman shipwreck Mahdia. The next year, he made a British minersweeper an oceanographic research ship. He struggled to raise the money for the expeditions. His passion for diving eventually led him to create The Silent World, a book that became a success.

Aqua-Lung was the first innovation in scubadiving. It was designed by Jacques Cousteau in 1959 and allows divers to safely and comfortably swim below water. The Aqua-Lung is a well-known staple. Cousteau was instrumental in the development of many other tools for oceanographic research. Cousteau was the inventor of the first underwater camera in 1959. Cousteau's inventions revolutionized scuba dive.

Emile Gagnan

1945: Emile Gagnan (Jacques Yves Cousteau) and Emile Gaugnan (Emile Gagnan) patent the Aqua-Lung diving regulation. Aire Liquide, an American company, purchased the rights to make the regulator. It was later sold by the U.S. Divers Corporation. It was the most recent development of the French CG45 regulation and was manufactured in Canada. This regulator proved to have great success.

Initially, the Aqualung was called Aqua-lung. The first Aqua-lung sold in France was in 1946. The Aqua-lung was later brought to America in 1952. In 1958, Air Liquide purchased U.S. Aqua Lung America was created by divers and purchased by Air Liquide in 1958. Air Liquide became a division of the company, making it the world's largest diving business. Aqua-lung is an integral part of almost all sets of Scuba gear today.

Emile Gagnan & Jacques Cousteau invent the Aqua-Lung. Both men were spies for the French Resistance during World War II. Robert Ballard pursued his passion for the sea after the war. He eventually met Emile Gagnan, a fellow Frenchman who was working for L'Air Liquide. As engineers, they learned to use high-pressure pneumatic design. Gagnan's idea grew into a fully-automated compressed-air scuba system, the Aqua-Lung.
