Become a Cavern Diver

fins diving

A scuba diving course is required if you want to become a cavern diver. This course includes four scuba diver dives. Your instructor will also show you how to plan your dive and keep your orientation and air management under control. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to dive in caves or other caves with safety rules.

Safety

Safety protocols for cave diving follow the Rule of Threes. The Cave Diver should have three sources for light and at minimum two tanks. To ensure they are able to survive the dive, they should separate their gas into three sections. If the dive team is experienced, and has had experience diving in caves before, it is better to use a conservative gas management strategy. Cave divers should be careful when diving in caves.

Equipment

Cave diving requires the use of specific equipment. Two types of safety reels are essential. One should be used to run guideline, while the other should be used to maintain line tension while the diver is in the cave. Each diver should have a safety reel that has enough line to reach the cave's entry and the longest permanent line. When purchasing a new reel, most manufacturers will pack the spools to the edge with guideline, which makes them more prone to jam. To avoid a jam, you should cut off about 10 meters (30 ft) of line before use to reduce the risk of entanglement.

Maximum penetration

TDI offers a cavern course to scuba divers looking to dive in areas where it is not possible to reach the vertical. This includes diving in caverns and underhangs. Although it is not necessary to take a cavern diving course, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to make the most of this environment. This course will help you navigate dangerously through the small spaces that are sometimes hidden from your eyes.

Maximum depth

Cavern diving is subject to certain restrictions. Cavern diving should not be done at night. Additionally, cavern diving requires more advanced training than most other types of diving. You will need to be familiar with cave safety procedures and your limits if you are interested in diving in caverns. It is a good idea to have some experience in cave diving before you attempt it. This will allow you to begin your journey into the wonderful world of cavern-diving!
